WAFI Conference concluded successfully, Professor Zhao Liping won the Science and Technology Innovation Award
On October 12, the 2024 WAFI was successfully concluded at the Beijing Jinhai Lake International Convention & Exhibition Center. Professor Zhao Liping, Chair Professor at Rutgers University, Distinguished Professor at Shanghai Jiaotong University, American Academy of Microbiology Fellow, Canadian Institute for Advanced Studies CIFAR Fellow, won the Science and Technology Innovation Award of the conference.
Fu Wenge, Secretary General of the Conference Advisory Committee and Director of the MBA Education Center of China Agricultural University, presided over the 2024 WAFI Conference Innovation Show Award Ceremony. Sun Qixin, Co-Chair of the Conference Advisory Committee, President of China Agricultural University, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, presented the award.
Professor Zhao Liping was invited to attend the Dietary Fiber Summit of the WAFI Conference and brought his latest research results, “Foundation Guild of Gut Microbiome: A New Target for Nutritional Improvement of Human Health”. This research result was recently published in the top international journal "Cell". At this conference, Professor Zhao Liping also publicly elaborated on this research result for the first time.
This research result identified for the first time two groups of core flora members, the "cornerstone functional group" and the "pathogenic functional group", which play a key role in maintaining human health. These two groups of core flora form a "seesaw"-like pattern, affecting human health through each other's ups and downs. When the cornerstone functional group is dominant, the human intestinal flora is in a healthy state. When the pathogenic functional group is dominant and the advantage is increasing, it indicates that there is a problem with human health. This "seesaw" model exists in the intestines of all people and is an essential core flora for maintaining human health.
Zhao Liping said that the discovery of the seesaw characteristics of the core intestinal flora, especially the importance of "big tree fungi" to health, has opened up new avenues for personalized medicine and precision nutrition: "Next, we will use big tree fungi as targets to develop a series of tests and treatment plans that can be used clinically, and prove their effectiveness in different diseases, truly bringing good news to patients."
Guo Fangjie, general manager of Tailijie Biotechnology Co., Ltd., a co-organizer of the Dietary Fiber Summit, said that Professor Zhao's research is of far-reaching significance to dietary fiber companies. In the future, dietary fiber, as a dietary supplement for precise nutrition, is expected to develop clinical tools that can accurately regulate intestinal flora and more effectively prevent and treat diseases related to dysbiosis. As a productive enterprise, we will invest more manpower, material and financial resources in product research and development and production, strive to produce more and better products, help solve the public's intestinal problems, and make our due contribution to the health of more people.
