The Chinese Nutrient Measurement Model has been released

Date: 2024-07-17 10:32  Author: tailijie

Recently, the Chinese nutrient measurement model was released in Beijing.

According to media reports, the model was jointly developed by the Chinese Society of Nutrition and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as domestic and foreign nutrition professional institutions, after three years of effort. Its aim is to constrain and regulate the marketing behavior of "high sugar, high oil, high salt" foods to children and adolescents, and provide a basis for guiding the development of food towards a healthier direction.

It is reported that in response to the increasing global burden of obesity and chronic diseases, more than 60 countries and regions have developed and applied different nutrient measurement models based on the health needs and dietary conditions of local residents. These models play an important role in dietary guidance in different regions.

The nutrient measurement model in China is a threshold type, which includes three components: fat, sodium, and sugar, and encompasses all food categories. According to the Chinese nutrient measurement model, it is recommended not to impose marketing restrictions on natural prototype foods or foods that have only undergone simple physical processing; It is recommended not to allow the marketing of candy and seasoning noodle products (such as spicy strips) to children and adolescents; Suggest marketing food categories that exceed the threshold limit.

In addition to the aforementioned food categories, this model establishes threshold judgment criteria for 13 types of food, including baked goods, ready to eat convenience foods, and beverages. If the sodium, fat, or sugar content of a certain food exceeds the threshold, it is recommended to limit its marketing to children and adolescents.
